The thermal properties of a homologous series of 3-cyano-7-(4'-(4”-alkoxy-benzoyloxy)benzoyloxy) coumarins have been examined. All homologues (the ethoxy to nonyloxy homologues) form high stability of the nematic phase. The heptyloxy homologue shows a reentrant behavior of the type, C-N-SA-N-I.
