Flexoelectricity in Nematics : Continuous Distortions and Instabilities

Abstract

We review recent experiments mostly performed by the Orsay Group, which allow the independent measurement of the bulk flexoelectric and electric quadrupolar constants for nematic liquid crystals. Most of them use the hybrid align geometry, where a splay bend distorted nematic behaves as a liquid ferroelectric domain.
