Abstract

Polymerizable diacetylenic lipids form a long, hollow tubular bilayer microstructure that has been characterized by microscopy, spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. The lipid monomers are highly ordered at the molecular level, and at high density the microstructures themselves align giving macroscopic order.
