Modification of Main Chain lcp Processability and Properties

Pages 577-596 | Published online: 19 Dec 2006

Abstract

Sphericl, fibrous and platey particulate additives have been incorporated into a thermotropic wholly aromatic polyester. The effect of additive shape and concentration on melt rheology and solid state properties has been investigated. Melt viscosity shows a greater dependence on shape than concentration. Spherical particles produce high melt viscosities. Anisotropic particles, uniaxial and biaxial, give low viscosities. Modification of moulded test shape mechanical property anisotropy, expansion coefficient anisotropy and dyanamic mechanical relaxation behaviour is discussed.
