Abstract

We have investigated the fundamental bands of the SO2 molecule dissolved in various solvents. By measurement of the band widths and application of the Rakov formula, we have been able to show that the rotational effect is dominant in inert solvents. From the analysis of the correlation functions, we deduce the rotational correlation time and the free rotation angle. We eventually calculate the second and fourth moments and therefrom determine the root mean squared torque for SO2 dissolved in CS2.

Abstract

Nous avons examiné les bandes fondamentales de la molécule SO2 en solution dans différents solvants. La mesure des largeurs en fonction de la température et l'application de la formule de Rakov nous ont permis de mettre en évidence un effet rotationnel tout-à-fait prépondérant dans les solvants inertes. L'analyse des fonctions de corrélation nous fournit alors le temps de corrélation rotationnel et l'angle de rotation libre. Nous avons enfin calculé les seconds et quatrièmes moments et déduit de ces derniers le couple de rappel pour une solution de SO2 dans CS2.
