A hard disc system ; solid-solid phase transition in a thin layer

Abstract

A thin layer of hard discs has been studied by a mechanical simulation method. A solid-solid phase transition has been observed and recorded by a photographic method. A free volume calculation has been carried out, confirming the possibility of the transition.
