Determination of molecular structure by carbon-13 autocorrelation N.M.R.

Abstract

A two-dimensional N.M.R. method is proposed for the correlation of resonances in the proton-decoupled carbon-13 N.M.R. spectrum: carbon-13-carbon-13 scalar couplings typical of directly bound carbon atoms are chosen as the criterion for correlation, allowing the structure of the carbon framework of organic molecules to be determined by inspection. Two related techniques are proposed and compared experimentally for the carbon chain of butan-2-ol.
