Test of the ArO⁺(X⁴Σ⁻) potential by ion mobility data

Abstract

An independent test of a previously proposed ArO⁺ ground state potential is made by comparison of calculated and experimental results on the mobility of O₊ ions in Ar gas as a function of electric field strength. The agreement is satisfactory over most of the region of the potential well. Some marginal ambiguities remain concerning the tail of the potential and an unusual minimum in the mobility at low field strengths.
