The temperature dependence of the phase velocity and attenuation of hypersonic longitudinal waves across the glass transition is monitored in two samples of monohydric alcohols by means of Brillouin (inelastic) light scattering. The behaviour with temperature of parameters characterizing the elastic and relaxational responses of the samples is discussed in some detail.
