Abstract
The quantum close-coupling studies of the 3P2 ← 1P1 spin-changing transitions in Ba(6s6p) colliding with helium involving changes of magnetic quantum numbers are presented. The cross-sections are calculated using the theoretical potential curves of E. Czuchaj et al. [1995, Chem. Phys. Lett., 196, 37]. A description of the characteristic features of the multi-structure cross-sections, particularly their dependence on various aspects of collision dynamics is given. The study of orientation, alignment and coherence effects is made in a range of relative translational energies from threshold to 2.0eV. The calculated multi-structure cross-sections are averaged over a Maxwell—Boltzmann distribution of collision energy.
