ADRENERGIC INNERVATION OF THE CHOROID IN THE RABBIT AND THE RAT

SUMMARY

The distribution of rat and rabbit choroid adrenergic nerve fibres was studied in fluorescence microscopy on whole mounts treated with glyoxylic acid. Three contingents enter the choroid. One forms periarterial plexuses, one passes into the ciliary nerves, and the third is gathered into small paravascular trunks. Adrenergic terminations corresponding to distinctly vascular innervation were observed, together with a rich plexus whose probable target is the smooth musculature of the intervasal stroma. No cell bodies with fluorescence specific for catecholamines were observed.
