Researches on the Coast of Somalia. The Chiton Fauna (Mollusca Polyplacophora)

SUMMARY

The study of a collection of 86 chiton (Mollusca Polyplacophora) specimens from the intertidal and shallow subtidal zones of Mogadiscio, Gesira, Bender Mtoni, and Sar Uanle, in southern Somalia, revealed the presence of 11 species, two new to science: Ischnochiton yerburyi (Smith, 1891), Chaetopleura chelazziana n. sp., Callochiton vanninii n. sp., Chiton salihafui Bullock, 1972, Rhyssoplax affinis (Issel, 1869), Tonicia sueziensis (Reeve, 1847), Onithochiton literatus (Krauss, 1848), Acanthopleura gemmata (Blainville, 1825), Acanthopleura brevispinosa (Sowerby, 1840), Acanthochitona cf. A. penicillata (Deshayes, 1863), and Cryptoplax sykesi Thiele, 1909.

RIASSUNTO

Lo studio di una collezione di Molluschi Poliplacofori raccolti nella fascia intertidale e sublitorale della costa somala, nelle località di Mogadiscio, Gesira, Bender Mtoni e Sar Uanle, ha rivelato la presenza di 11 specie, delle quali 2 risultano nuove per la scienza: Ischnochiton yerburyi (Smith, 1891), Chaetopleura chelazziana n. sp., Callochiton vanninii n. sp., Chiton salihafui Bullock, 1972, Rhyssoplax affinis (Issel, 1869), Tonicia sueziensis (Reeve, 1847), Onithochiton literatus (Krauss, 1848), Acanthopleura gemmata (Blainville, 1825), Acanthopleura brevispinosa (Sowerby, 1840), Acanthochitona cf. A. penicillata (Deshayes, 1863) e Cryptoplax sykesi Thiele, 1909.
