SUMMARY
A detailed account of gametogenesis and oospore formation in Sclerospora andropogonis-sorghi is given. In many respects S. andropogonis-sorghi differs from Sclerophthora macrospora. On cytological grounds the removal of Sclerophthora macrospora from the genus Sclerospora is justifiable.
Though there are many similarities in the development of the sex organs and oospore formation between S. andropogonis-sorghi and S. graminicola there are differences which justify the removal of this species from S. graminicola, with which it was once merged.
Morphological and cytological studies pertaining to the development of sex organs and oospores give very useful data in classification of these fungi.
