Studies on the Genus Phycomyces

&
Pages 751-771 | Published online: 12 Sep 2018

SUMMARY

The genus Phycomyces has been reviewed and revised taxonomically. It has been found to comprise the three species, P. nitens Kunze, P. blakesleeanus Burgeff, and P. microsporus Van Tieghem. P. spinulosus Morini is treated as a doubtful species, and P. pirottianus is reduced to synonymy with P. nitens. Descriptions and synonymy are presented, as are the results of numerous mating experiments with strains of P. nitens subjected to various experimental conditions.
