A New Species of Neurospora from Wisconsin Lowland Soil

SUMMARY

A new eight-spored species of Neurospora, N. terricola Gochenaur & Backus, isolated from sandy soil collected near the Wisconsin River in southern Wisconsin, is described. The species is distinguished especially by its homothallism, the oval shape of its spores, the presence of a single germ pore in the ascospore wall, and the lack of any conidial stage.
