&
Pages 790-798 | Published online: 12 Sep 2018

SUMMARY

A new homothallic species of Mycotypha, M. africana Novak & Backus, is described. The new taxon is based on two isolates obtained from soil from Southern Rhodesia.

M. africana differs from M. microspora especially in the shape of its conidia and in the pattern of septation in the conidiophores. Under favorable cultural conditions the new species produces zygospores of the “Mucor-type” in great abundance, while a perfect stage has not yet been reported in M. microspora.
