SUMMARY
Cavostelium bisporum, the second species of the genus to be described, has stalked sporocarps that are consistently 2-spored. The feeding stage varies from uninucleate amoeboid cells to multinucleate plasmodia. Cells placed in water become flagellate, typically developing 1, but fairly frequently 2, apical flagella that aid little in locomotion. Flagella unassociated with nuclei may also be present. The organism was isolated from dead plant material and subsists in culture by ingesting bacterial cells.
