A Comparison of Cellulose Production in the Genus Ceratocystis

, &
Pages 965-969 | Published online: 12 Sep 2018

SUMMARY

Four species of Ceratocystis were examined for the presence of chitin and cellulose in their cell walls. Two exoconidial species showed the presence of cellulose in addition to chitin. Cellulose was not demonstrated in the two endoconidial species. Most notable is the apparent heterogeneity in cell wall composition existing within this genus. A possible correlation between conidial morphology and cell wall composition within this genus is also suggested.
