SUMMARY
An historical review of the fungus species currently called Tomentella bourdotii is presented. It is concluded that T. bourdotii and the name T. granosa are nomenclaturally untenable, and the new name, T. neobourdotii, is proposed. A description of the species, elucidating the macroscopical and microscopical characters, supplemented with line drawings, is given; and the inter- and intra-regional variation of basidiospore shape, size, and ornamentation is emphasized. The species is also reported as an additional member of the North American tomentelloid fungus flora.
