Cultural Characteristics of the Brown Rot Fungi (Sclerotinia Spp.)

Pages 332-339 | Accepted 29 Mar 1969, Published online: 12 Sep 2018

SUMMARY

The appearances in culture of different isolates of Sclerotinia fructicola (Wint.) Rehm, S. fructigena Aderh. and Ruhl., S. laxa Aderh. and Ruhl. and one isolate of S. laxa forma mali (Wormald) Harrison are described. Different isolates of S. fructicola were very variable but there was much less variation in S. fructigena and S. laxa. Mycelial contact between isolates resulted in several different reactions, which may be used to determine compatibility between the isolates and species.
