SUMMARY
The discovery of four new hypogeous species of Cortinarius, C. wiebeae, C. bigelowii, C. velatus and C. verrucisporus, which have permanent or long persisting membranous universal veils, are reported. The possible phylogenetic relationships of these species with other agarics and gastro-mycetes are discussed. Pholiota magnivelatus Morse has been found to be a member of this group and is, therefore, transferred to Cortinarius.
