SUMMARY
Tyromyces graminicola Murr., originally described from Bermuda, has been found to occur over a wide area of the American Southwest. It is commonly associated with grass roots but also has been found on living Citrus and decaying stumps and wood in service. Its diagnostic characters are the sessile to substipitate basidiocarps, amyloid basidiospores, gloeoplerous hyphae, thick-walled skeletal hyphae, and double or multiple clamp connections. T. graminicola does not belong in the genus Tyromyces Karst, and can not be placed in any other polypore genera. Its microscopic characters are typical of the family Hericiaceae Donk. Basidiocarps and cultures are described and the microscopic characters illustrated. Polyporus propinquus Lloyd is placed in synonymy with T. graminicola.
