SUMMARY
Five new species and one new variety of Ceratocystis, isolated from sapwood of forest trees, were grown described from culture medium. Ceratocystis francke-grosmanniae was from larval galleries of the insect Hylecoetus dermestoides in oak from Germany. Ceratocystis olivaceapini was from Dendroctonus sp.-infested ponderosa pines in Arizona and New Mexico. Ceratocystis distorta was isolated occasionally from spruce and fir infested with ambrosia beetles, widespread in North America, Ceratocystis gossypina is a very common white mycelioid species in insect galleries in pines in North America. One isolate from insect-infested pine in southern New Mexico is described as a new variety Ceratocystis gossypina var. robusta It is similar in growth and culture appearance but has larger perithecia. Ceratocystis sparsa was isolated once from white spruce in Alaska. It also has white mycelium and grows very slowly with perithecia developing slowly or not at all in some transfers.
