SUMMARY
The basidiocarp of Polyporus adustus is described as monomitic but its development involves three hyphal systems: generative hyphae, hyphal strands which form the framework and lead the growth of the advancing margin and the dissepiments and felted hyphae in which the hyphal strands are enmeshed.
Primordia and basidiocarps show very rapid growth (24–48 hr to turity) and considerable plasticity of form, particularly the basidiocarps. These characteristics are associated with relatively little modification of the hyphae in the context, dissepiments and hymenium, and with marked sensitivity to alterations in the microenvironment.
