SUMMARY

A new combination, Auxarthron thaxteri, is proposed. Three monotypic genera are relegated to synonymy as follows: Narasimhella poonensis Thirum. & Mathur is Pseudoarachniotus marginosporus Kuehn & Orr, Waldemaria pernambucensis Batista et al. is Arachniotus dankaliensis (Cast.) van Beyma, and Thailandia candida Vardhanabhuti is Candida tropicalis (Cast.) Berhourt. Arachniotus intermedins Apinis is a species of Penicillium, while the A. trachyspermus Shear isolated and reported by Batista et al. represents Penicillium spiculisporum Lehman. An isolate reported by Apinis to be Arachniotus aureus (Eidam) Schroeter actually is Penicillium brefeldianum Dodge. The description of Gymnoascus verticillatus Smith was based on a mixture of a hyphomycete, Oncocladium flavutn Wallroth, and an undetermined ascomycete, so that G. verticillatus Smith cannot be accepted as a valid name.
