The Structure of the Ascus Apex in Sordaria Fimicola

Pages 204-212 | Accepted 18 Sep 1970, Published online: 12 Sep 2018

SUMMARY

The apical apparatus of Sordaria fimicola is illustrated with light and electron micrographs. A correlation of the information furnished by the electron micrographs is made with earlier light-microscopic interpretations of the apical apparatus. It is suggested that the apical apparatus has a simpler organization than was previously thought. Speculation on the possible organization of the ascus wall is also made.
