SUMMARY

The morphology of Phomopsis leptostromiformis (Kühn) Bubák ex Lind, the causal fungus of lupinosis, a mycotoxicosis, in sheep in South Africa is described. South African material of the fungus on its host, Lupinus albus L. cult. Pflugs Gela, as well as cultures on agar media were compared with various European collections and found to be identical. The following names are considered synonyms of P. leptostromiformis: Cryptosporium leptostromiforme Kühn, Phomopsis leptostromoides (Kühn) Bubák, Phoma rossiana Sacc. and Phomopsis rossiana (Sacc.) Sacc. & D. Sacc.
