SUMMARY
Dispira cornuta was deficient for thiamine and biotin, requiring high concentrations of both vitamins for maximum growth. Excellent axenic growth occurred on synthetic media containing glycerol as the carbon source and casein hydrolysate or a single amino acid (L-alanine, L-aspartic acid or L-glutamic acid) as the nitrogen source. Less growth occurred when certain other amino acids or ammonium sulfate was the nitrogen source. Nitrate nitrogen was not used. Unusually high concentrations of nitrogen favored axenic growth.
