A New Species of Catenaria Parasitic in Midge Eggs

SUMMARY

Catenaria spinosa parasitic in eggs of a Chironomus sp. is illustrated and described. This species is characterized by globose zoosporangia that lack discharge tubes, rounded resistant sporangia which bear numerous spines on their surfaces, and zoospores that move by filose pseudopodia during a part of the life cycle.
