SUMMARY
The nomenclature of Octospora Hedwig ex Gray was stabilized with the designation of Octospora leucoloma as its lectotype by Korf. The exact identity of this species has, however, been in doubt. The authors after having studied various old herbarium specimens labeled as Octospora leucoloma, have designated Fuckel's Fungi Rhen. No. 1219, Peziza leucoloma (Hedw.) Rebent., in the Farlow Herbarium, as the neotype specimen of Octospora leucoloma Hedw. ex Gray. Reasons for the selection of Fuckel's material for typification have been given and a detailed, illustrated account of the species provided.
