SUMMARY
The type culture ATCC 26215 of Aphanoascus cinnabarinus, type species of the genus, is found for the first time to produce enteroblasticphialidic conidia, and Paecilomyces cinnabarinus is described to accommodate this conidial state. Light is essential for production of the Paecilomyces state but not for the Aphanoascus state. The fungus is proven to be homothallic and nonkeratinophilic. The separation between Aphanoascus and its closely related genera Byssochlamys, Talaromyces, Dactylomyces, Eupenicillium, and Hemicarpenteles is discussed.
