SUMMARY

Utilization of different carbon and nitrogen compounds, vitamins, and growth hormones by Fusarium moniliforme var. subglutinans in culture was studied. Optimum growth was recorded on pectin followed in decreasing order by mannitol, starch, xylose and fructose. Maximum sporulation was obtained in mannitol followed by starch and pectin. Among the nitrogen sources, peptone proved to be the best both for growth and sporulation. The fungus was found to be favored by biotin and only slightly by thiamine in the medium. Maleic hydrazide proved to be the best source for growth and sporulation of the fungus among the externally supplied growth hormones followed in descending order by GA, IBA and NAA.
