A New North American Species: Physalacria Cryptomeriae

SUMMARY

Physalacria cryptomeriae Berthier & Rogerson (Fungi, Basidiomycetes) is described and illustrated as a new species. The fungus produces white, erect, stalked and capitate carpophores, frequently less than 1 mm high, and occurs on dead needles of Cryptomeria japonica in New York. It is characterized by nonfusiform basidioles, large basidiospores and clamp connections limited to the hymenium and subhymenium.
