Apodachlyella Reexamined

ABSTRACT

Studies of two Maine isolates of Apodachlyella confirm the original description that members of this genus form rounded units within the antheridia. These units produce fertilization tubes that usually connect to the oospheres. The oospores are eccentric and have punctate outer walls. The isolates differ in mean oospore size, mean number of oospores per oogonium, and antheridial morphology. Empty zoosporangia were seen in mixed culture.
