Cultural Studies on the Fomitopsis Rosea Complex

ABSTRACT

Cultural studies confirmed the separation of seven species of the Fomitopsis rosea complex. These fungi are all brown-rotters, and can be placed in three groups according to their optimum temperature for growth. Decay tests showed that Fomitopsis feei and F. lilacino-gilva reported only on hardwoods are also capable of decaying conifers “in vitro.”

A heterothallic, bipolar mating system was demonstrated for F. feei. Vegetative incompatibility was found when pairing dikaryons of different isolates of the same species.
