Abstract
The occurrence of an epibiotic parasite identified as Zygorhizidium sp. (Chytridiomycetes) was observed on the freshwater alga Pediastrum duplex. Although similar to both Z. affluens and Z. planktonicum, a precise affiliation with either species is uncertain. The association of Zygorhizidium sp. with Pediastrum duplex is significant in view of prevailing assumptions of resistance to parasitism based on host cell wall composition.
