Abstract

Studies of morphology, development, and cultural characteristics were conducted on grass endophytes classified as Balansia strangulans ‘forma typica’. It was found that at least two distinct species are lumped under this taxonomic grouping. These two species differ in morphologies of endophytic mycelia, conidia, conidiomata, ascomata, and mycelial tissue organization. One is recognized as B. strangulans, while for the other we propose the new combination Balansia nigricans.
