Uredo vetus sp. nov., the first record of a rust on Selaginella, and the use of the name Uredo

Abstract

The anamorph Uredo vetus is described as the first rust found on Selaginella sp., which represents the most primitive vascular plant host group for Uredinales. The genus name Uredo is used strictly as an anamorphic morphological genus without regard to whether it functions as an “aecium” or a “uredinium.”
