Cercospora leaf spot on Rhododendron (Cercospora handelii Bubak)

Summary

A fungal disease on Rhododendron, not previously recorded in New Zealand was found in New Plymouth and Palmerston North. The fungus was identified as Cercospora handelii Bubak It causes darkbrown angular spots on both sides of the leaves. The lower foliage of young stock is most susceptible. Control of the disease is discussed.
