Abstract

A colorimetric method for determining chromic oxide in faeces by automatic chemical analysis is described.

The ashed faeces samples are digested with phosphoric and sulphuric acids to bring the chromic oxide into solution. From this stage the analysis is taken over by the AutoAnalyzer, through which determinations are run at the rate of 40 per hr.

Duplicate digests are shown to agree to within 2 per cent over a range of 3–12 mg Cr2O3 per g faeces.
