Methoxyl-carbon content of soils as an index of humification

Pages 444-447 | Received 04 Jan 1966, Published online: 05 Jan 2012

Abstract

Methoxyl-carbon contents of some New Zealand volcanic ash soils have been measured and the results examined with reference to the humification sequence for similar soils proposed by Japanese soil scientists. All the New Zealand soils examined showed relatively early stages of humification, which, on present evidence, might be accounted for by differences in climate between Japan and New Zealand.
