Abstract

Results are reported of 30 mineral balance trials in which the intake and utilisation of sulphur, potassium, and sodium have been examined with young growing sheep fed on diets containing white clover and perennial ryegrass.

Mean availabilities of each element were: S 56%, K 93%, and Na 77%. The calculated daily maintenance requirements for young growing sheep weighing 20 to 30 kg were S 0.54 g, K 6.2 g, and Na 1.6 g.

The results of the present trial are discussed in relation to previously published studies.
