Effect of fungal diseases on phenolic contents of white clover

Pages 633-638 | Received 09 Mar 1971, Published online: 12 Jan 2012

Abstract

Twelve compounds, including four coumestans, have been newly identified as phenolic constituents of white clover. Concentrations of the coumestans and some of the other minor constituents were found to be much higher in plants infected with pathogenic fungi. These findings may be related to the mechanism of disease resistance and to the oestrogenicity of this forage plant.
