Effect of ploidy change on root cation-exchange capacity and mineral composition in red clover

Abstract

‘Grasslands 4706’ tetraploid red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) was shown to have lower root cation-exchange capacity and higher K : Ca content ratio than the diploid ‘Grasslands Turoa’ red clover. Change in root cation-exchange capacity with change in ploidy was dependent on the genetic origin of the material.
