Lime effects on hill country: 2. Relation of soil moisture, pH, and aluminium values with pasture yield

Abstract

Although soil pH to 75 mm on the trial site was low (pH 4.6–5.4) and estimated levels of monomeric aluminium (Al) in the soil solution were considered to be high (mostly between 0.3 and 1.5 µg/ml) regression analyses suggested that the positive effect of lime on soil moisture may have been as important in raising pasture dry matter yields as the elevation of pH and suppression of monomeric Al levels.
