Protandry and inbreeding depression in Hebe amplexicaulis (Scrophulariaceae)

Abstract

Hebe amplexicaulis plants are self-compatible hermaphrodites, but strong inbreeding depression was evident in one line derived from self-pollination. Automatic self-pollination is prevented by strong protandry but insect-mediated geitonogamy is always possible.
