Abstract
Celmisia subgenus Pelliculatae section Petiolatae belongs to the ‘herbaceous’ part of the genus and is confined to New Zealand. As treated here it consists ofthe following taxa: C. cordatifolia (var. cordatifolia, var. similis), C. hookeri, C. mackaui, C. spectabilis (ssp. spectabilis, ssp. lanceolata, ssp. magnifica), C. traversii, and C. verbascifolia (ssp. verbascifolia, ssp. membranacea, ssp. rigida). Celmisia petiolata is placed in synonymy with C. verbascifolia. Several species are of very local distribution, although C. spectabilis and C. verbascifolia are widespread throughout the South Island of New Zealand. A key is provided and putative hybrids are documented.
