Pages 59-65 | Received 24 Apr 1989, Accepted 22 Dec 1989, Published online: 05 Dec 2011

Abstract

Gynodioecism occurs in one species of Chionochloa, in C. bromoides a petrophilous species from northern North Island. Female frequencies in natural populations ranged from 0 at three mainland sites to 0.582 on Poor Knights Islands. Seed-set in both sex-forms is equal and is of no advantage towards the maintenance of females in the populations.
