Gender dimorphism in Cheesemania wallii (Brassicaceae)

Pages 87-90 | Received 10 Jul 1990, Accepted 19 Dec 1990, Published online: 05 Dec 2011

Abstract

Cheesemania wallii at Eyre Creek, Southland, exhibits gender dimorphism. Female plants produce no fertile pollen, but, as it seems likely that males can produce seeds, C. wallii is probably gynodioecious. Flowers on male plants are larger than flowers on female plants. This is the third report of gender dimorphism in Brassicaceae, and the second such report from New Zealand.
