Abstract

Six new species of New Zealand polypore fungi are described and illustrated. Antrodia novaezelandiae sp. nov. has resupinate basidiocarps with regular, angular, straw‐coloured pores, and allantoid spores. Byssomerulius psittacinus sp. nov. is easily recognised in the field by bright reddish purple, resupinate basidiocarps which fade on drying to various colours. Dichomitus newhookii sp. nov. has cushion‐shaped resupinate basidiocarps with large pores and large, sometimes 14‐septate basidiospores. Phellinus dingleyae sp. nov. was recorded previously in New Zealand as P. pachyphloeus, from which it is separated by the smaller and sometimes resupinate basidiocarps, scattered hymenial setae, and larger, thick‐walled basidiospores. Rigidoporus longicystidius sp. nov. is recognised by its pileate habit, elongate cystidia in both trama and context, and thick‐walled spores. Wrightoporia micropora sp. nov. has a dimitic hyphal system with dextrinoid skeletal hyphae and subglobose amyloid spores. Specimens previously reported from New Zealand and Australia as Tyromyces semisupinus have been redetermined as Antrodiella citrea.
